Thread starter maslex Start date Jul 19, Joined Apr 15, Ok, so I’m in the market for some new bras. I have to buy online. With that said, I’m am trying to decide whether or not to get under wired bras.

The wires kept poking through the fabric and into my sides. I’m just curious if things have changed much with under wires?

I wear a 36C and I swear that’s “vanity sizing” for you. I always wear and underwire. I didn’t in my youth but as I’ve gotten older, I think even in a nice bra things look very “mom-ish” to me when I don’t wear the underwire bra.

I do have some and I mainly wear them when I’m bumming around. That said, I have never, ever had a problem with an underwire poking through.

Sure, it happened on, say a really old bra, but not as a routine occurrence.

I also take care of my bras and I seem to remember from a thread last week you said you washed, bleached, and dried your bras. So, if you continue to do that, I would avoid underwire.

I don’t find them uncomfortable but they aren’t as comfortable as non-underwire.

Maybe you should just buy one and use it when you are trying to look a little extra pulled together and just see how it works out for you.

I like both but it depends on the top im wearing and the kind of support i want. I will admit thou, the bra without the underwire is sooooooo much more comfy.

I only wash by hand and hang to dry. The well made bras I have are about 3 years old and no wires poking through.

I have noticed that with cheaper bras. If I don’t buy the wire type it puts too much weight on my shoulders. I find with a good fit I find the wires much more comfy.

Chrystmasangel DIS Veteran. Joined Mar 17, I am in the same boat. Prior to losing lbs, I was a 40H. After losing the weight I am now a 34F.

My daughter is also large at 14 she is wearing a 40E cup. My daughter will wear nothing but underwire bra’s. Even her sports bra’s she is very active in sports despite her size have to have under wires in them.

She just doesn’t feel supported with out them and a in her words she say’s “I flop to much without them”. I prefer underwire because I like the shape presented better.

Every non-underwire bra I have ever found makes me feel like I have cone shapes on my chest instead of a rounder shape.

I also feel like the non-underwire bras that can support well enough make my bust point out toward the edges and I hate that. I used to have the same issues with cheaper bra’s where after months the under wires would start popping out.

I do keep a couple non-underwire bra’s handy, but mostly just use those for lazy day’s.

Joined Apr 11, Joined Nov 7, F cup here and I love love love the Cacique bras from Lane Bryant – I do buy the underwire balconette but since I switched to this brand years ago I don’t have issues with poking wires, the support is great and the smooth cups look great under t-shirts etc.

I only wear the balconette style and I stock up every January when they have the best annual sales that I am aware of I believe its buy 2 get two free.

Joined Sep 23, I only wear underwires, wash them in a lingerie bag and hang to dry.

I did have wires poking through before I figured out how to wash them. My mom is smaller chested and she always bought those Playtex bras in a box and you just tossed those in the washer.

I think those things could have survived a nuclear explosion.
